How’d we get here?
In 2011, Michael and Jennifer Meredith were living in Jacksonville, FL serving in a local church and trying to keep up life with two kids under two. Michael began to sense God’s leading into church planting. Through months of prayer and seeking the counsel of trusted friends, the Merediths stepped out on faith to move to Chattanooga, TN in the summer of 2012 to join the church planting launch team of Sojourn Community Church.
As a group of a dozen people and a few kids meeting for Community Group in a two bedroom apartment on a small hill just north of downtown Chattanooga, God began to give the Merediths a very impactful and formative experience. They began to do life in biblical community in a way they never had before - seeing the gospel change everything in peoples’ lives!
The church was growing through relationships… one Community Group multiplied into two. At the beginning of 2013, Sojourn Chattanooga began meeting in a school cafeteria weekly for Sunday morning gatherings. Michael began leading the Hospitality Team, coordinating volunteers to handle parking, greeting, coffee, info table, follow-up, etc.
During the weekdays, Michael was working in construction as a project manager and Jennifer was homeschooling. Michael and Jennifer were serving in several ways at Sojourn Chattanooga. They led a Community Group for several years, Michael served as an elder of the church (overseeing Community Groups, construction, pastoral care, etc.) and then later would enter into church planting residency.
In 2017, the Merediths became part of the Sojourn Network, a network of churches “helping pastors plant, grow, and multiply healthy churches that last.” So in the spring of 2018, the Merediths put their house up for sale in Chattanooga in preparation to move to Lexington, KY. After several months of waiting, their home sold and they moved to Lexington in mid-October 2018.

As Michael and Jennifer began to ask God what city He would lead them toward, Lexington quickly rose to the top of the list. Michael and Jennifer both grew up in Louisville and, of course, “you can take the boy (and girl) out of Kentucky, but you can’t take Kentucky out of the boy (and girl)!” In partnership with the other pastors at Sojourn Chattanooga and the Sojourn Network, the Merediths set their hearts and sites on Lexington… with a passion to reach the unchurched and the overchurched, to establish a healthy church that plants churches, and to connect college students into life in the local church!
Their hope is to plant a healthy church in Lexington - see people be reached with the gospel, discipled, and grow to Love Jesus, Cultivate Community and Live on Mission! This is not only true for Lexington but throughout central Kentucky. The Merediths have been praying for quite some time now that God would not only be pleased to grow a healthy church in Lexington but allow Bluegrass Community Church to raise up, train, empower and send out more church planters in Central Kentucky!
We are beginning to meet at the home of Michael and Jennifer Meredith for Gospel Community… to read and talk about the Bible, to get to know each other, to party well together, to encourage and challenge one another, to share our life’s mission to see more people come to know Jesus and experience being welcomed by a loving God and a loving community of Christians.
